ThanksUSA Announces Inaugural Event with United States Tennis Association
Pro-Am Featuring Frances Tiafoe and Veterans Tournament Support Military Families
McLean, VA (December 10, 2021) – ThanksUSA today announced its inaugural Charity Pro-Am tennis tournament and Tennis Corps veterans competition in partnership with America’s primary tennis organization, the United States Tennis Association (USTA). The first-ever event will take place at the Home of American Tennis, the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, on December 11-12, 2021. The campus is the nation’s largest facility. The inaugural event will feature doubles pro-am play with star professionals including Frances Tiafoe, ThanksUSA’s national spokesperson coming off a stellar year. Mackie McDonald and Robby Ginepri will join Frances, along with top Orlando tennis professionals and members of United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) leadership. The pro-am tournament will be followed by a pro exhibition and reception. “Tennis Corps and this special event are a unique way for me – for many of us – to show our gratitude for the sacrifices made by our military families,” said Frances Tiafoe. “They overcome challenges including financial difficulties and family separations that I’ve experienced in the past. With my tennis racket and my voice, I can help raise awareness of their needs. I am proud to do that.” Tennis Corps is a premiere program that brings together veterans and teenage tennis players in weekly tennis clinics, helping veterans heal physically and emotionally and mentoring young people who are generally unfamiliar with military life. Tennis Corps is part of ThanksUSA’s mission to help support military children and spouses through post-secondary school scholarships and career enhancement opportunities. A special veterans tournament is included during the weekend affair with military veterans playing to represent Tennis Corps clinics from across the country. “We are proud to partner with ThanksUSA and host this event at the USTA National Campus to celebrate, honor and thank the veterans and their families for everything that they have done and continue to do to keep us all safe,” said Jo Wallen, Sr. Director, USTA National Campus. “We’ve seen through our weekly military clinics, that these tennis programs can help our veterans and their families enjoy a more healthy and fulfilled quality of life.” For more information and a schedule of events, visit: www.ThanksUSA.org/pro-am Interview, video and photo requests can be made by contacting Kelly Sohou at KellySohou@ThanksUSA.org or 515-468-8911. |
