Thanking Military Moms Following a Challenging YearThanksUSA Helps Families Celebrate Mother’s Day with a Joyful Challenge
McLean, VA (April 16, 2021) – Women serving in the military, whether a service member or a spouse, continue to serve their country on the front lines. In the era of the pandemic, more and more are meeting challenges here in the United States, in field hospitals, food distribution sites, morgues, and now, at thousands of vaccination sites across the country. ThanksUSA is listening to their stories — the challenges they face and the sacrifices they make — from those who know them best, their family members. Today, ThanksUSA is launching a national campaign to solicit those stories and share them with others, through the media and other information outlets, in celebration of Mother’s Day. The campaign revives a cherished tradition dating back to World War I when service members were encouraged by military order to write letters to their mothers for that special day. ThanksUSA is asking military family members to answer the question, “What makes your military mom special?” “Mothers are the lifeline of our families and military moms are extra special people. Day in and day out, they live with the anxieties surrounding deployments and long separations whether their own or that of their loved ones,” says Jon Rosa, President and CEO of ThanksUSA. “What better way to recognize their sacrifices, resilience and devotion than to celebrate them?” ThanksUSA's My Military Mom campaign is seeking letters, videos, poems, artwork and more celebrating military moms of all kinds. Military moms include mothers in the broadest definition of the term who have been connected to the military as a spouse, service member, or mother to a service member. The non-profit organization which provides post-secondary school scholarships and career enhancement opportunities for the children and spouses of service members and Veterans is accepting submissions on Facebook or through the website, concluding on Mother’s Day, May 9. Social media posts must include the tag @ThanksUSA #MyMilitaryMom. A surprise gift will be sent to the mother of a “winner” chosen randomly. “Saying thank you to your military mom is such a gesture of love and perhaps the most meaningful gift possible,” says Rosa. “ThanksUSA is dedicated to helping all military mothers and their families. We should honor them every day, but after this challenging year we salute them with even greater fervor. We are thrilled to be sharing their stories.”
