A $3,000 Blavatnik Family Foundation/ThanksUSA scholarship is helping Stacey Fleurijean fulfill a lifelong ambition -- earn a college degree. As an Army spouse and mother of two, Stacey waited until the timing was right to pursue her educational goals. She is now in her third year of undergraduate studies at Florida International University where she majors in Psychology. |
Earning a Bachelor of Psychology is just the first step in Stacey's long-term plan. She intends to continue her education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and then a Master of Science in Nursing. "I believe that attaining a Psychology degree first would enable me to be the best nurse I could possibly be. A nurse must always be alert and utilize critical thinking skills on a daily basis. Being able to work under pressure and stay calm are skills which are essential for success in this career field." Skills that Stacey is already honing as a volunteer at Memorial Regional Hospital. A student of FIU Honors College, Stacey seizes every opportunity to enhance her educational pursuits. She is currently preparing for a study abroad in Costa Rica where she will work with local entrepreneurs and farmers to build small-scale businesses and coffee plantations. Stacey is as dedicated to her loving family as she is to her studies. She has volunteered in her children's schools and supported her extended Army family through involvement with the Family Readiness Group. Most importantly, perhaps, is that Stacey is leading by example in teaching her children the value of an education. "I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all the wonderful and extremely generous donors for making ThanksUSA scholarships possible. This scholarship will enable me to continue pursuing my degree as well as fund the study abroad trip that I have always dreamed of. Thank you for your continued support in assisting military families in achieving their dreams of a brighter future!" |
