The daughter of a medically retired Army Chaplain, Amy Searl received her second $3,000 Bruce & Suzie Kovner/ThanksUSA scholarship to continue History and Political Science majors at Cedarville University in Ohio. A student of the Cedarville Honors Program, Amy is interested in a public service career. Ideally, she would like to be involved with local elections, educating the community and encouraging citizens to become more actively involved in the elections process. |
“My goal is to be a well-rounded, polished, and educated citizen. My desire is to be a good communicator and impact not just government policy, but people.” Amy has honed her communication skills through Speech and Debate where she has served as both Tournament Assistant and Judge. She is a member of the Cedarville University American Enterprise Institute (AEI) Executive Council, the secretary for Omega Mu Political Science Honors Society, and mentors through Tau Delta Kappa. |
Amy is also dedicated to her faith. She serves as a Discipleship Group Leader and volunteers with her church in nursery, on violin, and on service days. In her free time, Amy enjoys long walks around campus, playing intramural sports, writing with fountain pens, and introducing underclassmen to everything Cedarville has to offer. Last year, Amy spent a semester in the District of Columbia as an Intern of Strategic Marketing at the Heritage Foundation. “Thanks to the Bruce & Suzie Kovner/ThanksUSA scholarship, I am able to pursue a degree. My college education will prepare me to enter the world and use my skills to enrich it.” |
Amy is the middle of five Searl children and the third in her family to benefit from ThanksUSA scholarships! Sister Vicki and brother Charles each received ThanksUSA scholarships in the past bringing the family's total ThanksUSA award value to an impressive $15,000. As Amy continues her undergraduate studies at Cedarville, she will be applying for a 2017-2018 ThanksUSA scholarship. You can help Amy and her fellow military family members who are pursuing their academic goals by donating to ThanksUSA's scholarship program. A donation today means even more -- Every dollar donated to ThanksUSA before June 30, 2017, will be matched by the Kovner Foundation up to a total of $400,000. |
