With the assistance of a $3,000 Jackson Casey Fund/ThanksUSA scholarship, Army National Guard dependent Rachael Wood is continuing undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. A student of the UAB Honors Program, Rachael is following a rigorous Pre-Med curriculum, majoring in Biomedical Sciences with minors in Spanish and Mathematics. |
Rachael plans to shadow many professionals to explore various career opportunities in the medical field. "My short term goals include research and shadowing experience while my long term goal is medical school and deciding on a specialty." To complement her studies, Rachael has volunteered at the UAB hospital and McWane Science Center. She is a member of the student alumni society leadership council and serves as Secretary of the Pre-Med AMSA Club. Rachael is finalizing plans for a study abroad in Spain where she will focus on her Spanish and mathematics minors. "Thank you so much for the opportunities that you have provided me. Thanks to the Jackson Casey Fund/ThanksUSA scholarship, I have had time to become secretary of an organization, volunteer, and begin my search for research. This award has also given me the chance to consider studying abroad -- something that I have wanted to do since I was in high school. Again, thank you so much, receiving this scholarship has helped me in ways that I could have never imagined." |
