Navy dependent Brittaney Key was awarded a $3,000 John (NMN) Coffey/ThanksUSA scholarship to continue undergraduate studies at the University of California in Davis.

A UC Davis Regents Scholar and University Honors Program student, Brittaney majors in Evolution, Ecology, and Biodiversity.
“I hope to attend veterinary school after completing my undergraduate work and eventually go on to pursue a career in wildlife medicine.”

Though her main goal of treating wildlife remains, Brittaney is using every opportunity to expand her knowledge of veterinary medicine. She has served as a surgical assistant at a small-animal hospital, completed an introductory horse handling clinic, and currently interns in the physical therapy department at the UC Davis Veterinary Hospital.

Most recently, Brittany became a prospective intern with the UC Davis Wood Duck Project, a long-standing research project that began in 1998.
“Myself and other prospective interns are learning about the biology of wood ducks and the history of the project. Soon, we’ll learn the hands-on techniques we’ll need to know to help with the research. I hope to be an intern with the education outreach team and the animal behavior team.”

What does such a dedicated student do to relax and unwind? She dances! Brittaney is a member of the Davis Swing Dancers, the Davis West Coast Swing Club, and the Davis Ballroom Dancing Club.

“Thank you for honoring me with the generous $3,000 John (NMN) Coffey/ThanksUSA scholarship. I am humbled knowing that I am receiving this scholarship as a gesture of support and recognition for my father’s military service. I am very proud of his service and so I thank you for this support on his behalf."

"Thank you again for your generosity and sponsorship of higher education for our military families. I promise I will work hard to excel in my academics and succeed in my undergraduate education so that I may best honor your valuable support.”
