With the assistance of a $3,000 Lockheed Martin/ThanksUSA scholarship, Joey Arnold has begun undergraduate studies at Drexel University. An Air Force dependent, Joey majors in Electrical Engineering with minors in Global Engineering and Chinese. “These studies will make me a versatile engineer upon graduation.” Upon graduating from high school in 2016, Joey studied-abroad in Taiwan and China through the U.S. Department of State’s National Security Language Initiative for Youth. He now serves as a NSLI-Y Pre-Departure orientation leader, preparing students for their own studies-abroad. |
This past summer, Joey expanded upon his Chinese interests by working at the Alabama State House and served as a Chinese affairs consulate to Mayor Strange of Montgomery. Although he has only been at Drexel for a few months, Joey is already demonstrating academic prowess. He is a finalist for Drexel University’s Sigma-Phi Fraternity Balanced Man Scholarship which recognizes outstanding freshman who exemplify the cardinal principles of virtue, diligence, and brotherly love. Drexel’s engineering program will allow Joey to complete several co-op semesters, providing him with over a year and half of practical engineering experience upon graduation. “Since Drexel and Lockheed Martin have a working relationship, I will apply to Lockheed Martin for my first co-op.” Truly a well-rounded student, Joey spends his free time running, volunteering at his church, and practicing Java: React and Python coding. “Thank you for selecting me to receive this generous $3,000 Lockheed Martin/ThanksUSA scholarship. Overall, this scholarship will propel me forward in my endless pursuit of more knowledge and provide me with the financial assistance in paying for my educational expenses. I thank you once again for selecting me as Lockheed Martin/ThanksUSA scholarship recipient and I assure you that I will work strenuously to give back to society as an engineer.” |
