While volunteering at a summer school for the deaf, Air Force dependent Jasmine Ruffin witnessed many students struggling to learn because of communication barriers. With the assistance of a $3,000 Stephen Curry/ThanksUSA scholarship, Jasmine enrolled in California State University of Northridge where she intends to earn an undergraduate degree and teaching credentials in Deaf Studies. |
Jasmine plans to work with deaf children and their hearing family members to bridge the gap between the deaf education and mainstream education systems. "The relationship between a child and parent is very important to the development of any child and plays a significant role in their future success in education, communication skills and character." To complement her major, Jasmine has joined the Deaf Student Association and Deaf CSUNians Club, a student organization that promotes cultural, political, and social awareness on campus and in the community. She will also participate in a Deaf Internship on the CSUN campus during her junior year. "I am very honored and grateful for being selected as a recipient of the Stephen Curry/ThanksUSA scholarship. Your generosity will continue to inspire my success in life and my academic endeavors!" |
