We're excited to give an update on ThanksUSA Alumna and Marine Corps dependent, Katharine MacKnight Lathrop. Katharine was awarded $6,000 in ThanksUSA scholarships for her Television and Broadcast Journalism studies at Chapman University.

Shortly afterwards, she moved to Billings, Montana, to begin her broadcast career at NBC affiliate, KULR-8 News. Though she had never evn visited Montana, Katharine says, "Moving was both scary and exciting for me, and I learned so much about myself as a person and as a journalist. Starting out as a news reporter, Katharine was eager to learn everything she could to become a true asset to the newsroom. "After a lot of hard work, I was promoted to morning anchor, producer, and weather forecaster, all while managing the news Facebook and Twitter pages. I've enjoyed juggling so many positions at once, and because of all of the experience, I was able to learn what I truly loved."
Katharine recently accepted a position as a news producer in the KEYT/KCOY/KKFX newsrooms in Santa Barbara, California. She is thrilled to be more involved in news content and looks forward to working her way up through management. So, if you live in the Santa Barbara area, be sure to check out your local broadcasts for this energetic, up-and-coming, producer!
