In 2010, Army spouse Tia Hicks was awarded a $3,000 Goldman Sachs Gives/ThanksUSA scholarship for her Elementary Education major at Chaminade University of Honolulu.
When I first interviewed her in 2011, Tia explained, "My goal as a teacher is to make certain that all of my students are engaged in their personal learning experience."
Today, Tia realizes that goal everyday as a first grade teacher at Haynes Elementary School in Killeen, Texas.

"It doesn't seem much like work -- I love what I do!"
Not only does Tia love teaching, she also loves learning. She earned her Master of Education degree from American College of Education and is currently researching PhD programs. She mentions that the University of Mary Hardin Baylor is at the top of her list and adds, "Their program is amazing!"
We are thrilled to share Tia's success with ThanksUSA supporters. We wish her all the best with her continuing education and inspiring career.
