TREASURE HUNT 2006
Welcome to ThanksUSA's first American history treasure hunt (TH1) designed to celebrate America's values and to promote scholarships for the kids and spouses of the military.
For newcomers to our effort, ThanksUSA stands for Treasure Hunt Aiding Needs of Kids and Spouses of those serving the United States of America. ThanksUSA began as the "brainblast" of two Virginia schoolgirls in 2005 as a non-partisan, charitable effort to mobilize Americans of all ages to "thank" our active-duty troops by providing need-based college, technical, and vocational school scholarships to their spouses and dependents.
Treasure Hunt One is Free ... although we hope you will make a donation to the scholarship fund for the families of our brave men and women in uniform who protect our freedoms each and every day. Every contribution counts.
The ThanksUSA clue-book designers zigzagged between the obvious and the obscure, threading their way through classic history, pop culture and business trivia. As a result, the puzzles for some of the states might be relatively easy for an elementary-school or middle-school student working independently. Other states might be so difficult that even high-school students will need an adult ally. Since we want to bring families closer together, certain questions -- especially ones about ancient TV shows -- will demand the "data base" of a savvy parent or a wise aunt, uncle or grandparent. And of course you'll find helpful historical-reference displays on the Internet.
This Official Treasure Hunt Clue Book is where it all starts. Each stage of the “hunt” begins with a riddle to help identify the state on which a large portion of the clues are based (and in one case, not actually a state). The idea behind each stage of the “hunt” is to allow the clues in the puzzles or questions as they lead you to the one-two-or-three-word answer. As soon as you think you've got the answer to that stage, log in your answer at www.ThanksUSA.org or send it by mail.
