TREASURE HUNT 2012
Welcome to ThanksUSA's Seventh American
history treasure hunt (TH7) designed to celebrate America's values and to
promote scholarships for the kids and spouses of the military.
For newcomers to our effort, ThanksUSA stands for Treasure Hunt Aiding Needs of Kids and Spouses of those serving the United States of America. ThanksUSA began as the "brainblast" of two Virginia schoolgirls in 2005 as a non-partisan, charitable effort to mobilize Americans of all ages to "thank" our active-duty troops by providing need-based college, technical, and vocational school scholarships to their spouses and dependents.
Treasure Hunt Seven is free ... although we hope you will make a donation to the scholarship fund for the families of our brave men and women in uniform who protect our freedoms each and every day. Every contribution counts.
Every American who visits a foreign country notices the differences. However, if you look a little closer, you might just as easily be startled by the similarities. This year’s Treasure Hunt Seven focuses on the fascinating histories of some of America’s allies. We’ve designed these international chapters to bring out the overlaps -- things that are similar, though not identical -- between our societies.
This year’s treasure hunt will take you on a journey to the beautiful island nation of Taiwan then return to the states for some Military Movie trivia. Then it’s off to New Zealand for a visit with our Kiwi cousins. Back at home we’ll learn how our First Ladies have influenced positive change in America and then we’ll take a tour down under to Australia. Then it’s back to the Americas for an historic journey through Peru before winding down with some Tennis.
We will tease you, bend your mind and coax you through crosswords, word searches, anagrams, sudoku and more as you seek to find the key at the end of each chapter to unlock that chapter’s treasure chest. We encourage students, families and individuals to jump into the chapters and learn important historical facts and concepts in a fun but challenging way in hopes of winning this year’s fabulous educational and technological prizes. Military members and their families, teachers, former treasure hunt winners, and friends generated the clues and puzzles.
